About Firefly Garden Design
Firefly Garden Design is a regenerative landscape and garden design company based in the neighborhood of Clintonville in Columbus, Ohio. We share the knowledge you need to be more connected to your land. Whether you want a low maintenance garden, edible landscape, or space to entertain, we can work with you to create the systems and practices that are right for you.
Our Values
Well-being
We are women-owned and operated. Healing is our top priority. We strive to do what is good for the earth and people.
Social justice and sustainability
Workers are paid a wage that is based on what they need. Electric cars are used for the majority of the driving.
Quality plant sourcing, using native plants
We have a nursery dealer stock license and use the best quality soil and plants possible. We source from Scioto Gardens or Leaves for Wildlife, which are native plant nurseries. They use recycled plastic plant containers and focus on all native plants. Additional plants are sourced from quality wholesale nurseries such as Acorn Farms, Oakland Nursery, and Millcreek.
We are passionate about plants that will thrive in your space and enrich the ecosystem. This means plants that do well without a lot of water, fertilizer, or pesticides. We love bugs! When the natural ecosystem balances itself then we don’t have as many bugs that are a nuisance to humans.
Celia Kahle, Founder and Designer
Celia lives on a small food forest and permaculture site in Clintonville. She enjoys her morning garden meditation, a chance to connect with the plants and wildlife.
Celia is part of a new paradigm of sustainable pollinator gardens that care for all living creatures, from children to microorganisms in the soil. She is passionate about taking back our landscapes to help us live more joyful and healthy lives.
She loves to talk lasagna-style bed prep, soil health, and how to bring the five senses alive in a creatively designed garden. She has been the founder of multiple organizations, including the Juniper School and Story Creek Studio, and prior she was a Waldorf teacher specializing in handwork.
Bernadett Szabo, Lead Gardener
Bernadett Szabo lives in Pataskala, OH on a small herb, flower and vegetable farm. She was born in Hungary where she spent summers in her grandmother’s gardens, participating in the care, and most enthusiastically in the harvest of all fruits, berries, flowers, and veggies. Once in Ohio, Bernadett joined OEFFA to deepen her knowledge of growing food and medicinal crops. She follows deep organic practices with some biodynamic principles on her homestead.
