About Firefly Garden Design

Firefly Garden Design is a regenerative landscape and garden design company based in the neighborhood of Clintonville in Columbus, Ohio. We share the knowledge you need to be more connected to your land. Whether you want a low maintenance garden, edible landscape, or space to entertain, we can work with you to create the systems and practices that are right for you.

Our Values

Well-being

We are women-owned and operated. Healing is our top priority. We strive to do what is good for the earth and people.

Social justice and sustainability

Workers are paid a wage that is based on what they need. Electric cars are used for the majority of the driving.

Using native plants to support our ecosystem

We have a nursery dealer stock license and use the best quality soil and plants possible. We source from Scioto Gardens, Leaves for Wildlife or Natives in Harmony: all of which are native plant nurseries. We also love to design for beauty and interest, occasionally that means sourcing a non-native plant if that is critical to the design. In that case plants are sourced from quality wholesale nurseries such as Acorn Farms, Oakland Nursery, and Millcreek.

We are passionate about plants that will thrive in your space and enrich the ecosystem. This means plants that do well without a lot of water, fertilizer, or pesticides. We love native caterpillars and want to actually see evidence of feeding on our plants. They never eat too much of one plant….they don’t want birds to find them.

Expect to see more birds, butterflies, moths, and bats! When we can increase the habitat, food, and water for all these critters our land becomes more than something pretty. However, we want our gardens to be gorgeous too!

Celia Kahle, Founder and Designer

Celia is passionate about empowering people to have fun with their gardens and rewild the land to help create a better future for our children.

She is excited about using native plants in a aesthetically pleasing way and revealing the beauty inherent in our native landscapes.

As a former teacher and art major she loves to teach people how to manage their own gardens and get creative with spaces. She specializes in growing food forests interplanted with native flowers and herbs.
